School councils were formed to support the school and provide the opportunity to advise the principal and school board on any matters relating to the school and education.
Our school council is made up of interested parents, the principal, and a teacher. All parents/guardians of students attending Willow Park School are members of the School Council. As a parent, you are always invited to attend any meetings. We are a fairly informal group that meets every second month to discuss school issues.
At every meeting, parents have the opportunity to hear reports from the school administration and from the school board trustee assigned to our school. Parent participation is encouraged and there is usually a lively discussion on a wide range of issues.
School Council does no fundraising. Our Parents Association (PAWS), which meets immediately following council meetings, is our fundraising arm.
School Council meetings and Parents Association meetings are open to all parents/guardians of Willow Park School to attend. School Council meetings begin virtually at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Parent’s Association meeting. As everyone’s time is valuable we aim to conduct both meetings within 1 and 1/2 hours. You are welcome to come for both or just one of the meetings and regular attendance is not required.
PAWS (Parents Association of Willow Park School)
Every year PAWS and the school administrators work together to develop a list of students’ needs such as new equipment or innovative programs for the enrichment of the student experience.
Some of the projects funded include:
These projects are funded through specific fundraising initiatives and casinos as well as being supported by our hot lunch program.
All parents of Willow Park School are automatically members of our Parents’ Association and welcomed to help in our many volunteer opportunities or to serve on our board. All of us have found that volunteering our time in the School has significantly enhanced our experience at Willow Park School and the school experience for our children.
Our board priorities for this year include engaging existing and new parents in the school. Active participation in the association not only enriches your child(rens) school experience but also allows you to be a positive role model. All parents are welcome to join us at one of our meetings!
Please get involved and make a difference for your child(ren) and for our school. For more information, please contact PAWS President, Kelly Valentine at [email protected]
