School Council & PAWS
Welcome to Willow Park School!
Willow Park Parents Association is looking for new members! Being a member does not take up a lot of time and we do not require you to be able to help with every event – any time you are willing to contribute is appreciated. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
School councils were formed to support the school and provide the opportunity to advise the principal and school board on any matters relating to the school and education.
Our school council is made up of interested parents, the principal, and a teacher. All parents/guardians of students attending Willow Park School are members of the School Council. As a parent, you are always invited to attend any meetings. We are a fairly informal group who meet every second month to discuss school issues.
At every meeting, parents have the opportunity to hear reports from the school administration and from the school board trustee assigned to our school. Parent participation is encouraged and there is usually lively discussion on a wide range of issues.
School Council does no fundraising. Our Parents Association (PAWS), which meets immediately following council meetings, is our fundraising arm.
School Council meetings and Parents Association meetings are open to all parents/guardians of Willow Park School to attend. Our meetings are held in the staff room starting at 6 pm. Parents Association meetings start at approximately 6:45 pm. As everyone’s time is valuable we aim to conduct both meetings within 1 and 1/2 hours. You are welcome to come for both or just one of the meetings and regular attendance is not required. The next meetings are as follows:
The meetings all begin at 6 pm in the Staff Room. These dates are tentative and can change if the Chairperson and the Principal determine that it is necessary for the meeting date to be changed.
PAWS (Parents Association of Willow Park School)
Every year PAWS and the school administrators work together to develop a list of students’ needs such as new equipment or innovative programs for the enrichment of the student experience.
Some of the projects funded include:
- New playground
- Smart Boards
- Classroom Daily 5
- Physical Education equipment
- Art orders
- Busing and rental space for Christmas Concerts
- Rhythm, rhythm drumming experience
- Soft Seating options for classrooms
- And much, much more!
These projects are funded through specific fundraising initiatives and casinos as well as being supported by our hot lunch program.
All parents of Willow Park School are automatically members of our Parents’ Association and welcomed to help in our many volunteer opportunities or to serve on our board. All of us have found that volunteering our time in the School has significantly enhanced our experience at Willow Park School and the school experience for our children.
Our board priorities for this year include engaging existing and new parents into the school. Active participation in the association not only enriches your child(rens) school experience, but also allows you to be a positive role model. All parents are welcome to join us at one our meetings!
Please get involved and make a difference for your child(ren) and for our school. For more information, please contact PAWS President, Shannon Caul at email@example.com.
