On January 19, Vice Chair Angie Charpentier joined Mayor Bob Young, members of Leduc City Council and school trustees at Willow Park School to announce the construction this summer of a new playground, much to the delight of students and staff.

“The City of Leduc is thrilled to help fund Leduc’s most inclusive recreation structure,” says Mayor Bob Young. “The new playground will allow all children from all over Leduc the ability to play, laugh, and feel included during recess, lunch, and outside of school hours with their peers and classmates.”

“This inclusive playground will be for everyone, no matter what level of ability, because everyone deserves a chance to play, laugh, and learn together,” said Vice Chair Angie Charpentier. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to send a huge shout-out to the City of Leduc, Canadian Tire Jumpstart and community partners for making this dream playground a reality. This project reflects the Board’s commitment to creating inclusive and nurturing environments for every child in our school communities.”

“This new playground will be a game changer, not only for our school but for the entire Leduc community, as it will allow children across the city to make new friends, create lasting memories, and have fun while being physically active,” said Willow Park School Principal Greg Luchak. “Our existing City of Leduc playground has had its fair share of adventures, but we are really excited for this brand new playground. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our former principal Rhonda Brunken for all the hard work and effort she put into working with the City and other partners to bring this fantastic project to life.”

The City is inviting Leduc residents to a public engagement opportunity at the Leduc Recreation Centre on January 31, 2024, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. to provide input into what they want to see included in the inclusive playground.
